My Spoon Garden Markers

Spoon Garden Markers
The 2nd attempt of just painting the paint on the spoons proved successful, although they may or may not survive the outdoor weather.  The point was to make the garden markers only using things I had around the house and something to weather proof them was not, so next spring I may weatherproof them and possibly have to redo them.

Materials Used:
  • Spare Spoons
  • White Indoor Wall Paint (why they might not do well outdoors!)
  • Sharpies for the writing and drawings

First Attempt at Spoon Garden Markers

I have been wanting to make markers for the plants in our garden since we planted it back in February, but was not sure what to use.  Last weekend I learned about turning spoons into garden markers and thought it would be great to try, especially since we had quite a few more spoons than we really need.

I did not really follow the directions I had seen, as they recommended mod podge and other stuff I did not have around the house.  What I did have, though, was a container with some of the white paint for finishing the edging in my room.

In my first attempt to turn the spoons into garden markers, I was quite lazy and decided to just dip the spoons in the paint.  I did let some of the paint drip off, but I really was going for quick and did not really let enough drip off.  Thus, I ended up with them not really drying all the way through and the back of the spoon ended up with a spot not covered or still wet where it was resting on the wax paper.  This was after drying overnight.

I ended up easily rinsing off the paint and picking off the rest.  Next up I am going to just paint them with a paintbrush, so I do not end up with the pools of paint accumulating in the concave part of the spoon.

While it did not work out so well, as rushing a project usually does not, but I did make a cool video of dipping the spoons.

Too Efficient at Preparing Lunch Today

I rarely actually plan what is for lunch ahead of time, but this morning I had Mik choose exactly what we should have and planned to have it right after his workout with his personal trainer.  Thus with a plan, I started making the potato fries in the oven to have them ready right when he is usually done.

Of course, for once they actually stayed out longer and I ended up having it all ready 15 minutes early.  Thus I had to reheat them for Mik when he was ready.  At least the corn dog was frozen and I had to heat that up for him anyways.  In the meantime, I enjoyed my veggie corn dog with some of the fries straight out of the oven.

Let's See If the Painter Sticks to the Wall

On Friday, Mom and I finally began to tackle the final painting for the Master Bedroom.  The painting has been a work in progress since December when we decided Mom should move out instead of us and I was going take the Master Bedroom.  The majority of the painting was done by January, but there was still some patching, sanding, and edging to do.

I ended up being better at the edging, so Mom was tasked with sanding, painting those areas, and painting the trim.  She was painting with a Shur-Line Handi Painter and I was standing on the ladder nearby painting the ledge.  I look down and see her let go of the painter to do something else.  I yell Mom as the painter falls to the carpet splattering paint.

Yes, the painter stuck to the wall for a few seconds before falling, but no a painter does not stay stuck for long.  I do not remember what she was doing, but I do know that in the moment she seemed to think it would stay on the wall while she did it.

Sadly, the paint that ended up on the carpet from that incident is actually just makes that part of the room blend in with the rest of the room, which has spots of blue and gray from those previously involved in the painting project.  The carpet was on the list to replace from the start, but before the painting project it was just dirty and now it is totally grungy.
